Cop's Post about a Terrified Black Teenager He Pulled Over Goes Viral
The relationship between police men and blacks has really deteriorated. This is because of the various police shootings and attacks on cops. Most people have died because of this animosity. So, when a black teenager gets terrified to the core because of being pulled over by a cop, many would understand.
Lt. Tim McMillan was the policeman who pulled over the black teenager texting and driving. The young man was paralyzed with fear because a cop was at his window. He had his hands up. McMillan posted on Facebook how he had to reassure and calm the teenager down. His post has since gone viral, with over 100,000 post shares. Most of the comments are hailing him.
Here is what he wrote:
Your perfect partner could be online right now...
What are you looking for?
I pulled a car over last night for texting and driving. When I went to talk to the driver, I found a young black male, who was looking at me like he was absolutely terrified with his hands up. He said, "What do you want me to do officer?" His voice was quivering. He was genuinely scared.
I just looked at him for a moment, because what I was seeing made me sad. I said, "I just don't want you to get hurt."
In which he replied, with his voice still shaking, "Do you want me to get out of the car."
I said, "No, I don't want you to text and drive. I don't want you to get in a wreck. I want your mom to always have her baby boy. I want you to grow up and be somebody. I don't even want to write you a ticket. Just please pay attention, and put the phone down. I just don't want you to get hurt."
I truly don't even care who's fault it is that young man was so scared to have a police officer at his window. Blame the media, blame bad cops, blame protestors, or Colin Kaepernick if you want. It doesn't matter to me who's to blame. I just wish somebody would fix it."- Lt. Tim McMillan
Lt. McMillan is urging people to join the movement by liking his page in order to help 'fix' the issue at hand. The commenters have also been very supportive. They are inspired by what he did. Here are some of the comments:
"Thank you for sending one of my brothers home safely" - Korina Caton
"We are all brothers and sisters in God's eyes. We all need to show more love and peace. Good job officer!" - Ashley Davis
"Lieutenant, you are an inspiration and an exemplary role model." - Chuck Denk
"Just wish all cops can be like him , Thanks for posting this and i wish bad cops can learn...." - Slimchery Okuns
I can't even imagine what must have been going through the young man's head. He probably thought that that was his last day on this earth.
The police are supposed to protect and serve citizens. We are not to be scared sh**less at the sight of them. The problem is real. So how can people bridge this gap?
All it takes is more cops like McMillan and more posts and testimonials like his to make a difference. Now imagine if we had more cops like him...
