"I Don't Think There's a Problem With Race" - Grammys Boss Speaks Out!

Posted by Sidney, 16 Feb

It’s no secret that a lot of people, including Solange Knowles, believe that Beyoncé didn’t win the coveted ‘Album of the Year’ award at last week’s Grammys because of the color of her skin.

A pretty serious accusation to say the least – one which Grammys boss Neil Portnow has strongly denied saying:

Your perfect partner could be online right now...

What are you looking for?

“I don’t think there’s a race problem at all. It’s always hard to create objectivity out of something that’s inherently subjective, which is what art and music is about. We do the best we can.

We don’t, as musicians, in my humble opinion, listen to music based on gender or race or ethnicity. When you go to vote on a piece of music—at least the way that I approach it—is you almost put a blindfold on and you listen.

We stand 100 percent behind the process: It’s a democratic vote by majority. So somebody could either receive or not receive a Grammy based on one vote. It could be that tight.

We actually believe that both Adele and Beyoncé’s albums were worthy of the award, so we do kind of get where he is coming from. We wonder if things will be any different next year...

What do you guys think?

I think it was all about race... Lemonade wasn't only a good and very creative album that bared Beyonce's soul. It what she stood for the last past two years. Especially her stance with Black Lives Matter. She was the clear winner with the better album and the White Supremacy power structure wanted to send a message. The lesson we should get from this as Black People is to ignore White approval. We are perfect without their approval.--- Stay Black! :)

There is no problem with race? I can't believe people are so naive in this country. This is the only country where I have to worry every day and apoligize about my skin color. We as Africans learn so much languages in the U.S. a person skin colors than other thing in this country. As a young black man everywhere you go in this country are consider automatically a criminal. Police, security, and other agents watch you everywhere you go but yet, they cannot proof anything that you doing something wrong. Listening to stars on social issues will mislead you and waste. I believe the war on terrorist is actually war on black men. It's just code when they say terrorists. Black men get terrorized everyday in America and it's not going to get better. The same people who hate us are the same telling you race don't matter but yet we are still oppressed and promoting interracial marriages. If you think mix race will solve our problems we are big time mistaken. I lived a state where we have more interracial children than any other place yet black people go through hell here everyday. It's gooda state and has lots of opportunities but not everyday is allow to enjoy it. But it's better compare to other state in the union. If race don't matter why it's always about black and white. Jobs, health care, government jobs and benefits, citizenship, politics your skin colors always will be asked about. Note: I'm not making any excuses for any monority who don't take advantage of opportunities and cannot decide what he or she wants in life, the truth is until we stop sugar coating what the real problem is, we will be talking about this another 500 years from now. This is real and I'm sure trollers will come on here and pass my information to agents who hate that you speak your mind, guess what like Donald Trump said stop sugar coating and speak what on your mind.
